This job gave me stability of income, a respected position in society, and even a sense of authority. People would walk up to me for financial advice, believing I was smarter with money than them. This job gave me a house, a car, and enough money for small luxuries.

But in return, it took away my happiness, my laughter, my sunlight, my freedom of movement. Instead, it left me with high BP, weight gain, and constant stress.

So I kept asking myself:
What’s more important—security or freedom?

If I continued, I would have money… but no life.
If I quit, I would have life… but maybe no money to sustain it.

In India, people prepare for years to get a sarkari job. And they usually retire only when the organisation tells them to, not when they choose to quit.

And here I was, stuck in this tug of war.

The clarity came one Sunday, sitting with my family, watching Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year.

Ranbir Kapoor’s character said something that hit me like lightning:
“𝘙𝘪𝘴𝘬 𝘵𝘰 𝘚𝘱𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘳-𝘔𝘢𝘯 𝘬𝘰 𝘣𝘩𝘪 𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘢 𝘱𝘢𝘥𝘵𝘢 𝘩𝘢𝘪. 𝘔𝘢𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘰 𝘱𝘩𝘪𝘳 𝘣𝘩𝘪 𝘴𝘢𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘮𝘢𝘯 𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘯.”

That was enough for me.
The fear melted, and clarity took its place.
I decided to take calculated risks and plan my exit.

Have you ever faced this tug of war—security vs freedom? What tipped the balance for you?
